Capture it before you lose it
Capture voice memos, send notes, and query your vault memory on the go, straight from your phone without a laptop.
For: anyone who needs to capture or check something while away from their desk
If you’re out of the office and need to capture a quick voice memo or check a client commitment from your phone without opening your laptop — this is for you.
Inspiration, client commitments, and strategic breakthroughs rarely happen while sitting at your desk. They happen while walking between meetings, commuting, or grabbing coffee. But if you have to wait until you get back to your laptop to type up a note or record a decision, the detail gets lost or forgotten — most of what makes an idea useful is gone within the hour if it isn’t captured somewhere.
How mobile capture works
Dori lets you capture notes and query your vault memory directly from your phone. By linking WhatsApp or establishing a secure Tailscale network link to your desktop Mac, you can drop a voice note or message Dori on the go. Dori’s local background engine processes the input, transcribes audio, extracts entities, and updates your vault memory.
What’s actually driving this, and what it costs
Message routing and audio transcription run through Dori’s local desktop engine, at zero API cost. Summarization and entity extraction is the part that uses your connected AI provider.
What you can do from your phone
With mobile access connected, your phone becomes a direct capture remote for your vault:
- Voice Note Capture: Record a 30-second memo after a meeting; Dori transcribes and files it under the right Project or Account.
- On-the-go Memory Queries: Ask Dori from your phone: “What did I agree to send Priya during our last call?”
- Quick Task Drops: Text Dori a task while commuting; it resurfaces on your desktop dashboard when you return to your desk.
See Voice & WhatsApp for mobile setup options.
Quick setup (one time, about two minutes)
Connect WhatsApp
Go to Settings → Connections → WhatsApp in Dori Desktop and pair your WhatsApp number.
Send a Test Voice Note
Open WhatsApp on your phone and send a voice memo to Dori: “Agreed with Sam to send the revised proposal by Friday.”
Check Your Vault
Dori’s desktop engine transcribes the memo, tags Sam, creates an action item, and files it in your vault.
A real-world walkthrough: Capturing context between meetings
- Walking out of Coffee: You just finished an informal alignment meeting with a partner. As you walk to your next appointment, you open WhatsApp and drop a 15-second voice note: “Priya agreed to co-host the Q4 launch webinar. Need to follow up with event dates by Tuesday.”
- Real-time Processing: Your desktop Mac running Dori receives the message, transcribes the voice note, tags Priya, and appends the commitment to the Q4 Launch Project.
- Back at Your Desk: When you open Dori Desktop later that afternoon, the action item “Follow up with Priya on event dates” is waiting on your task dashboard with full context attached.
Security & Privacy on Mobile
- Private Vault Connection: Your data lives in your Markdown vault on your computer. Mobile messages travel securely through your linked WhatsApp session or private Tailscale mesh network.
- No Shared Third-Party Cloud: Dori doesn’t store your mobile voice notes on proprietary vendor servers.
